NetWalk puzzle

NetWalk puzzle

The category of classic puzzles includes the game NetWalk, famous in the 90s of the last century. The player is invited to connect computers to the server using straight, rotary and branched cables.

The larger the playing field, the more difficult it is to complete the task, but ultimately every NetWalk puzzle can be solved - using logic, concentration and attentiveness!

Game history

The NetWalk game was originally written for digital platforms, and did not exist in printed form (in magazines or newspapers). Its official publisher is the Russian company Gamos, which released the original NetWalk puzzle in 1996 for the Windows 95 operating system.

The same company, founded in 1992 and existing until 2004, at one time released equally famous games, for example, Balda and Color Lines - first for MS-DOS and then for Windows.

It is noteworthy that NetWalk almost completely repeats the rules of another game from Gamos. We are talking about the Branch puzzle, in which you need to connect not network equipment, but sprouts and branches of trees.

These games are identical from a mathematical point of view, but differ in graphical design. While NetWalk was released for Windows 95 in 1996, Branch was released four years earlier, in 1992. Gamos released it for computers running MS-DOS, and decided to slightly modify it 4 years later.

Today you can find both types of games on the Internet, but NetWalk is more popular. Start playing NetWalk right now, for free and without registration! We believe you will succeed!

How to solve NetWalk puzzle

How to solve NetWalk puzzle

The rules of the game in NetWalk are simple and clear. Your task is to connect all the conditional computers to the conditional server using rotating sections of network cables.

They can rotate around their axis in 90-degree increments. To rotate, you just need to click on them with the mouse or press the touchpad.

As in most similar games, NetWalk does not have strict restrictions on the size and shape of the playing field. It can be a square or a rectangle. The larger it is, the more difficult it is to solve the puzzle, because to do this you need to follow two fundamentally important game rules.

Game rules

Initially, in front of you is a field on which all the cables are located chaotically. By turning them in different directions, you need to form a common network in such a way that it unites all computers with the server. In this case, you need to follow two rules:

  • Do not leave unused areas on the field. Ultimately, absolutely all cables must be used in the network.
  • Do not allow the cable to lead anywhere. It must be connected to adjacent cables or to network equipment.

There can be three types of cables on the playing field: straight, angled (rotated 90 degrees) and tees. Some versions of NetWalk, sold under other names, also have crossroads and empty squares, but the classic version from Gamos does not have them.

How to solve the puzzle

The rules of the game in NetWalk can be called elementary. Unlike chess, there is no need to know the moves for each piece and develop a complex gaming strategy. It is enough to simply rotate the cables and use them to connect the server and separated computers. Accordingly, the tips for players are extremely simple:

  • Proceed by trial and error. The moves in this game are not final (unlike chess, checkers, backgammon), you can replay them as many times as you like.
  • Use the elimination method. For example, if a rotating cable is located in a corner, there is only one possible position for it - corner to corner.
  • Do not leave fenced off areas on the field that are not connected to the general network. Lay it in such a way that each computer can be connected to the server without compromising other routes.

NetWalk is a fairly simple and intuitive game. You can easily win in the initial versions, but solving the larger puzzles will require serious mental effort!
